11/7/2016 Titus 1:1-9

I love having kids.  They are surrounded by everything on the ranch.  Horses, cows, you name it they get to see it.  Retro is 4, and he imitates everything with his toys that we just did the day of...even the language.  We worked our newest weaned bunch of calves today, and Retro is old enough to take some orders so he came out to poke em up the alley.  It was pretty funny watching him catch on to the process and even boss me around a little bit.
After this first reading from St. Paul's letter to Titus, he's handed him the reins of keeping an eye on Orthodoxy and Evangelization (more or less) in Crete.  He tells him what to look for in guys that have Bishop potential.  My first thought was comparing this list to me and how I live out these virtues, but I felt God reveal to me the more important thing is to pass this on to the next generation like St. Paul.  So I must first live a life like this so I can be an example to my sponge-brained 4-year-old (and all of my kids) and pass it on to him.
Like I said, Retro copies me from the way I comb my hair to leaning up against the fence exactly the way I do.  Titus copied St. Paul to the point that now he knows how to live a lively faith.  So it's our duty to wear our faith on our sleeves, even if it is giving booster shots to a bunch of calves, because we never know who is watching our every move.
